Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest has received submissions for 2012 and REALLY EXCITING!!

Films from around the world have arrived and it is amazing to see the celebration of Filmmakers using the 9SI (9 Signature Item) “ Heart” in their masterpieces!

Watching a small portion of films, we are in awe of the entries!! Only in our second year, there has been a huge jump in the quality and storytelling of submitted films. Beyond our imagination…. is how HEART has been used in the story. The Ford Connectivity award will truly be stellar, selecting which Director used HEART “connecting” into the story!

It is not up to us, to tell you in writing, but you must see these films for yourself!! With support from our partner AIS, we will have semi-finalist films loaded on AIS servers to be watched and judged by the Audience to decide who will be the AIS Audience Award Winner! People who submit scores about which film they like, will be eligible for an AIS Smart Phone which will be awarded in a lucky draw. The winning film selected for the AIS Audience Award will also receive an AIS Smartphone!

The 2012 Amazing Thailand Finalist Films (9 Films) will be screened 17 June 2012 at Paragon Cineplex, starting at 7pm, but afternoon screenings of Semi-finalists will take place at 5pm, and a special screening of 2011 9FilmFest Finalist filmmaker Kris Clijster’s follow up film to Man with a Video Camera will be held at 4pm.

It seemed like yesterday, when 9FilmFest 2011 was held at Paragon Parc, Bangkok on 26 March. We had a full house and showcased our 9 Finalist Films between music sets featuring Paradox, Calories Blah Blah and Buddha Bless.

The Audience loved the 9FilmFest Finalists! And were astounded by the Director’s creativity using the number 9 (signature item for 2011) in their films.

The winning film, Numberman Theory came from Japan and was an entertaining piece about a man who stretched into the shapes of numbers! It was fun seeing the winning film came from Japan! And it was also interesting to see Man with a Video Camera came from Belgium!

This year we have a terrific jury, including Academy Award Winner – George Miller (Australia), Prince Chatri (Thailand) and Apichartpong Weerasethakul (Thailand) to select this year’s 600,000 Baht ( US $20,000 dollars) Winning Film.

The excitement is in the air as we count down the days till final entry date of 7 May 2012.

Who will be our winning filmmaker? Who will drive away in a Ford Fiesta car? Who will make their next phone call on a Smartphone? And there are lots of other cash prizes for the Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest!

Given about nine minutes, just how easy is it to find love? Sound tough? Not for the aspiring creative filmmakers, directors, and producers of the Amazing Thailand 9FilmFestival Contest. Now in its second year, AIS presents the Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest Contest, featuring an internationally renowned, highly prestigious panel of judges, in search for a breakout filmmaker or two, who is ready to burst onto the scene, with a 600, 000 baht prize at stake.

On Wednesday 21 March at Paragon Cineplex, H.E. Chatri Yukol joined Mr. Brian Bennett, founder of 9FilmFest, title sponsors and well-known film directors and producers at the press conference of AIS presents Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest.

Brian Bennett spoke about the origins of the 9FilmFest project and announced this year’s signature theme: the “heart”. H.E. Chatri Yukol, one of the festival’s judges, emphasized the theme, expressing that the short film should be “produced from the heart, and will be judged based on the creative usage of this signature theme.” Also accompanying the international panel of judges will be Academy Award winner George Miller of Australia; Thai Cannes Palme d’Or winner Apichartpong Weerasethakul; Writer’s Guild America Award Nominee and Executive Producer of ALIEN David Giler; and 2011 9FilmFest Finalist Khun Kanin Ramasoot, Director of NETVIGATOR, freelance Editor/Director of Bangkok. Together, they will decide which film will win the Amazing Thailand Best Film award of 600,000 baht.

Khun Sugree Sitivanich, Executive Director of Advertisement and PR, TAT, said that “the unique opportunity presented by 9FilmFest has created a platform where the filmmakers’ art can be passed down, and the beautiful stories of Thailand can be told and shared.”

Khun Pornrat Janejaratsakul, VP of Marketing Communications, AIS, announced their support of the event, and expressed an appreciation for the creative, modern lifestyles for the new generations the event showcases. AIS also emphasized its support for the festival in that values the idea that amateur filmmakers are able to communicate new concepts and ideas through a 9-minute film without unnecessary complications and investments. With the developing advancements in mobile technology, filmmakers are better able to make 9-minute short films through various applications, and adapt it to his or her style, accordingly. This in turn, allows these 9-minute short films to be viewed anytime through the various OS and mobile device systems without limitations. AIS is involved in the 9FilmFest to provide encouragement and support to those who are passionate about filmmaking, to maximize their potential creativity.

Khun Adisai Sirisingh, Ford (Thailand) Marketing Director shared that Ford supports 9FilmFest because it “matches the Ford vision in its concept of ‘connectivity’”, mirroring the concept that “Ford connects people.” Ford announced that it would reward this year’s winner with a Ford Fiesta for 3 months, including all gas expenses paid.

Mr. Jim Patterson, General Manager of the Paragon Cineplex and IMAX explained that the Major Cineplex Group was proud to be a part of the festival, and endeavours to “support new & upcoming filmmakers into the movie industry, based upon creativity.”

Finally, Khun Soodrat Janyawong, Manager of Promotions, Thai Airways stated that not only are they sponsoring a round trip to Beijing, China for the winner, but they will also “be airing the winning film as part of the in-flight entertainment selections to over 70 different destinations,” during and throughout the summer season.

The press conference concluded with a viewing of the last year’s finalist film “The Elevator” and a panel discussion of the Director and Producer of Pig-O-Nine Production Khun Nisa Kongsri and Khun Kanin Rammasut about filming methods and technicalities.

AIS presents Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest

To enter Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest the entry requirements are simple. All films must be 9 minutes or less from opening to closing credits. All films must have the signature HEART appear in some capacity duringthe film. Additionally, films must make their premiere at the AIS Presents Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest.

A committee will review submissions and select semi-finalist films. Following, the 9 Finalist Films will be selected, and a Gala VIP Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest Finalist Dinner will held on 13 June, at the VIE Hotel, honoring their selection. These outstanding films will be recognized and be included in the Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest Contest to be held on 17 June at Paragon Cineplex. All films will have the opportunity to win a share of over 1 million baht in cash and prizes, including the first prize award of 600,000 baht.

AIS Serenade customers can view the short films submitted through wap.mobilelife.co.th/9filmfest or www.ais.co.th/9filmfest and vote for their choice for the best short film. If the short film voted for by the Serenade customer wins, they will have a chance to win an iPhone 4S. Voting starts 24 May to 14 June.

A press conference to announce the Final Call for Entries at the 2012 Amazing Thailand 9FlimFest will take place on Wednesday 21st of March, 4pm at Paragon Cineplex. Speaking at the press conference will be Brian Bennett, founder of the 9FilmFest.

Entering Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest is simple. All films must be 9 minutes or less from opening to closing credits. All films must have a HEART appear in the film (2011 – 9Signature Item <9SI> was the number “9”, the 2012 signature item <9SI> is “Heart”). All films must have a heart used in some way. And films must make their premiere at Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest.

Let’s look back at the past year and provide info for our new fans.

We introduced 9FilmFest, Bangkok’s Hottest Short Film Festival. Founded in 2011, by 9FilmFest co ltd, the first year’s fest concluded beyond expectations. Over 200 entries submitted, and two out of 9 Finalist Films came from abroad (Japan and Belgium). This gave us the opportunity to involve thousands of aspiring filmmakers to submit films and be involved with 9FilmFest. Great networking and exchanges of ideas took place. 9FilmFest winner for Best Cinematograhpy, Kris Clijster, Director of MAN WITH A VIDEO CAMERA, has offered to come back to Thailand and work on a special video/film project for the Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest 2012.

A select group of celebrity judges (Ananda Evingham, Nonzee Nimbutr, Pen Ek Ratanarueng, Kong Rithee). Cash prizes 300,000 baht for the 9Finalist Filmmakers. Premieres of all the films. Best Short Film NUMBERMAN THEORY from Japan. And worldwide distribution of the 9FilmFest Finalist films through distributor Indieflix. Energetic crowd also enjoyed the celebration of music (Calories Blah Blah, Buddha Bless and Paradox). All presented 28 May, 2011 at Paragon Parc.

Next year’s festival will be held on 6 May 2012! At Major Cineplex, Infinicity Hall, Paragon. Amazing Thailand 9FilmFest is growing and Inspiring Greatness in Others.

We are very excited to have the winning director of Man with a

Video Camera, here in Thailand shooting more scenes following

Man with a Video Camera! The Director Kris Clijsters (Belgium)

won Best Cinematography at this year’s 9FilmFest.

Kris has visited Thailand many times over the years and has fallen

in love with its charm and beauty. Kris has a gift with video camera

and editing to make the remarkable Man with a Video Camera.

Kris shoots angles and feelings we sometimes normally don’t see.

Kris is touring throughout, shooting and collecting more shots for

an interactive video installation he dreams of making. It is so

impressive to meet and talk with Kris, feeling his deep felt desire

to capture images and impressions of Thailand.

We will be following Kris as he tours Thailand, updating

different short videos he has shot.
