About 9FilmFest.com – 9Film Festival at Bangkok | Thailand Short Film Makers
9 IS THE CENTRAL THEME: the films must be no longer than 9 minutes titles to end credits, and the films must feature in some way the 9 Signature item which this year is Waterway. Those are the two main guidelines asked of the entrants, otherwise they are free to be as creative as they like. Not just with themes & narratives, but with filming techniques & methods also. They can be entered from any part of the World, in any language, with the only stipulation on language being that they must include English subtitles. Brian and his team will add Thai subtitles if the entrant is unable to.
Spanning across 2 days on the 21-22nd September 2013 the festival will take place at the IMAX Paragon Cineplex, Bangkok. The first day will be workshops and seminars and the second day finalists films will be screened followed by an awards ceremony with some live music and entertainment chucked in their for fun. This year's jury consists of Ananda Everingham (Actor), Tannia Tanwarin Sukkhapisit (Director), Kong Rithdee (Film Critic), Prachya Pinkaew (Director), Areeya Chumsai (Director), Yuthana Boonorm (Entertainment), Adam Yukol (Director), John Anderson (Film Critic, USA) who will select which one of the 9 finalists battling it out will win.
Indeed, the value of the prizes should surely provide enticement enough (Best Short Film walks away with a brand new Toyota Vios), but the 9 Film Fest is offering more than just prizes. It’s the chance to get recognised for your work as well as the kudos of a trophy & cheque. The word ‘9’ in Thai is pronounced ‘gow’ which is also a word meaning ‘to step forward’, so this Film Fest is giving talented film-makers the chance to do just that. The festival wants to encourage new filmmakers to step out into the spotlight and show what they can do. The number 9 can change someone’s life indeed.
