What is 9 Film Festival?

9FilmFest is Asia’s first short film festival with a signature item and maximum length of 9 minutes. 9FilmFest is a film festival that allows anyone regardless of country, to step to their dreams and start taking the steps to live life with passion and purpose.

9FilmFest’s main focus is to be an international short film festival where emerging filmmakers and artists around the world have a shot to be discovered and fulfill their dreams.

Bangkok’s 9FilmFest contest will take place in Bangkok Thailand at Paragon Major Cineplex on June 17, 2012.   9FilmFest is a one day music and film event free to the public.  During the day of the festival there will be live music as well as food and beverage. During the festival, there will be a screening of the nine films which have made it to the finals.

After the last finalist film is screened the jurors will award the Best Film winner with a 600,000 baht cash prize.

Who Created the 9 Film Festival?


9FilmFest was created by Brian Bennett in 2010. Brian Bennett, founded the original Bangkok Film Festival in 1998.  Working with the Nation multimedia group, the festival opened Bangkok to unseen films.  The first year at the Emporium – United Artists theatres drew over 16,000 people.  The festival continued, drawing additional festivals to Bangkok, including World Film Festival of Bangkok and the Bangkok International Film Festival.

To start Bangkok short film contest 9FilmFest, Brian Bennett reached out to an impressive list of film industry people, who agreed to support Bangkok Post 9FilmFest 2011.  The  advisory board included:  Prince Chatri, Jareuk Kalijareuk, Nonzee Nimbutr, Pen ek Ratanarueng, Chalida Uabumrungjit, Michael Shaowanasai, and “Kaos” Wych Kaosyananda

Who are the major sponsors of 9FilmFest?

The naming rights sponsor is the Tourism Authority of Thailand.  Other major sponsors  include  AIS, Ford, Major Cineplex and Vie Hotel.

How will the films be judged for the 9FilmFest?


All films submitted to the 9FilmFest will be judged from 9 FilmFest Company, a select group of screeners will select semi-finalist films for consideration to be finalists.


There will be 5 person jury judging the 9FilmFest Finalists.  Already confirmed are Academy Award winner George Miller, and Cannes Palme D’or winner, Apichartpong Weerasethakul

What are the rules for submitting films to the 9FilmFest?

Everyone is welcome to enter one or more short films.  Films can be shot using any device (but we ask for HD),  must be under nine minutes in length from opening to closing credits, never been shown elsewhere (even internet) before being screened at Bangkok 9FlmFest.  And must include a reference to the festival’s ‘‘signature item’’— any image related to the Heart. The deadline for submission is May 7, 2012.
